MLB All-Star Weekend
Regardless of what sport is your favorite; basketball, football, hockey or baseball, they each get their own weekend where their top players come together and compete to see who really is the best of the best. The long weekend of July 13-17th, all eyes were on The National League and the American League as they were to play each other in the 2018 MLB All-Star weekend being held in Washington DC. Leading up to Tuesday’s game, there were five days full of free events. From Fanfest at the Convention center to PlayBall Park outside of the stadium, and the MLB Assembly down at The Wharf, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Whether you wanted to try some food from the hand full of food trucks, hit the bating cages, hit the field, or just grab a drink, Playball Park was the place to be. With Budweiser alongside the local brewery, Devils Backbone was serving up the cold beers. Budweiser served their limited Freedom Reserve with the proceeds going towards getting active military back home for the World Series. For the kids, there were little league games, home run derbies, and even pitches by players from US National Softball team.
Starting bright and early, thousands of runners filled the streets surrounding Nationals Stadium to participate in The Color Run 5K through the streets of DC. As you run by, there are different color stations where volunteers throw as much color as they can, so by the end your once-white shirt is now every shade of every color imaginable giving tie-dye a run for its brand. When the runners crossed the finish line, the fun wasn’t over. Once they received their medal and water, the runners made their way to the main stage where they would dance and just have an all out blast. Every ten minutes or so, the MC would throw out color packets to the crowd and when everyone was ready, the group threw their color packets as high as they could and the sky was filled with what looked like a colorful fireworks display, only surpassed by the Forth of July.
ART. FASHION. MUSIC. BASEBALL. ASSEMBLED. That’s the slogan for MLB Assembly. This is a new concept and the start of a new direction for the MLB. I couldn’t think of a better setting than the District Wharf Pier, right on the water’s edge of DC. Having brands like Public School, Fear of God, and Billionare Boys Club just to name a few on hand with pop-ups and exclusive drops, it brought those interested in fashion together. The DJ sets and performances were also heavily attended with a great lineup. The roster included Wale, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Block Boy JB, DJ QuickSilva, DJ Money, and DJ Anayzle so you know the party was going to be set off the right way each of the four nights. MLB Commissoner Rob Manfred got a chance to check out MLB Assembly and he was impressed with how well MLB Assembly brought all walks of life to celebrate different cultures coming together under one roof.
Major League Baseball’s finest came dressed to impress for the MLB All Star Red Carpet Show. One by one, each player made their way down the red carpet starting with the National League followed by the American League. Some of the players took the high route being dressed head to toe in high fashion brands. Where some chose the more causal, laid back look. Once they signed autographs for the fans and did their interviews with the media they made their way to the locker rooms to get ready for the All Star Game. When all was all said and done, The American League took the game for the 6th year in a row in extra innings.
Overall, we had an absolute blast at MLB all-star weekend and cannot wait to do it again next year. As they continue to expand this event, we look forward to see what new innovations they bring to the table. From all of us here at Circa 7, we hope you enjoyed these perfect moments. Til’ next time, Cheers!
